Ben Stokes (Benjamin Andrew Stokes) OBE is a cricketer from England who plays for the England One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) teams and is the captain of the England Test team. He plays for Durham in domestic cricket and has appeared in numerous Twenty20 competitions, including the Indian Premier League for Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals.
Stokes was born in New Zealand and grew up in England. In 2011, he made his ODI and T20I debuts, and in 2013, he made his Test debut. He was a member of the England side that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup, hitting 84 runs in the final and collecting the Man of the Match award for batting in the tied Super Over. In 2019 and 2020, he was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World, and in 2019, he earned the ICC Award for Best Men’s Cricketer.

Early career
Stokes was born in New Zealand on June 4, 1991, to former rugby league player and coach Gerard Stokes and an English mother of English and Mori descent.
After his father was appointed head coach of the Workington Town rugby league team, he relocated to England at the age of 12 and grew up in the small West Cumbrian Cockermouth where I grew up, going to Cockermouth School and playing cricket for Cockermouth Cricket Club.
As a 15-year-old, he won the North Lancashire & Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division title with the team in 2006.
Domestic Creer
With only his third delivery in professional cricket, Stokes took the wicket of seasoned batsman Mark Ramprakash for Durham at The Oval in 2009. In two youth Tests against Bangladesh U19 in 2009, he made a half-century and took a handful of wickets. After that, he played in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, where he scored a century against India’s Under-19 side.
In 2010, Stokes made his first-class debut for Durham against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium in the traditional season opener. In that match, he scored 50 runs and grabbed one wicket. At the start of the 2010 County Cricket Season, he also made his Championship debut for Durham in a game against Essex. On May 13, 2010, he scored his first-class century against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
He’s also represented Durham in the Clydesdale Bank 40-over competition. Stokes continued to play for Durham in all forms of the game due to Durham’s ongoing troubles with numerous players falling injured at the start of the 2010 season. After a great maiden season in first-class cricket, he was granted a spot in England’s Performance Programme and went to Australia for the 2010–11 Ashes.
Stokes was a crucial player of Durham’s County Championship-winning team in 2013, and he was also voted Man of the Match in the 2014 Royal London One-Day Cup Final at Lord’s when he hit 38* and took two wickets in a low-scoring game against Warwickshire.
Stokes joined the Melbourne Renegades of Australia’s Big Bash League for the remainder of the season on January 2, 2015, as a substitute for Jesse Ryder, who was injured.

Stokes was named vice-captain of England’s test team on February 13, 2017, deputizing for Joe Root, who was named captain the same day. He was purchased by the Northern Superchargers for the 2022 season of The Hundred in April 2022.
The Rising Pune Supergiants bought Stokes for the 2017 Indian Premier League season in February 2017. He scored 103 runs off 63 deliveries, including seven fours and six sixes, in his first Twenty20 century against Gujarat Lions. He joined Rajasthan Royals for the 2018 season after being purchased for £1.7 million, becoming him the most expensive player in the 2018 IPL auction. In October 2020, he was part of a 152-run unbeaten partnership with Sanju Samson for Rajasthan Royals.
Stokes had a finger injury during the 2021 IPL season, forcing him to miss the entire season after only appearing in one match. He withdrew from the 2022 edition to concentrate on his country’s Test team.
