The Hundred 2023: 4 Indian players in women’s tournament

Teams in the Women’s Hundred 2023:

Trent Rockets: Based in Nottingham, the Trent Rockets represent the East Midlands region.

Southern Brave: This team is based in Southampton and represents the Southern region of England.

Welsh Fire: As the name suggests, Welsh Fire represents Wales and is based in Cardiff.

Manchester Originals: This team hails from Manchester and competes in the tournament.

London Spirit: London Spirit represents the capital city, London, and is one of the participating teams.

Oval Invincibles: Based at The Oval in London, the Oval Invincibles are another prominent team in the Women’s Hundred.

Northern Superchargers: Representing the North of England, the Northern Superchargers add regional diversity to the tournament.

Birmingham Phoenix: Birmingham Phoenix is based in Birmingham and is a key participant in the Women’s Hundred.

Nat Sciver Brunt serves as the Trent Rockets’ head coach. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper, played for the Trent Rockets. Smriti Mandhana, a chic left-handed opener from India, also played for the Anya Shurbsole-coached Southern Brave.

Tammy Beaumont will serve as the squad leader for the Welsh Fire team, which is devoid of any Indians. There isn’t an Indian player for Manchester Originals here who would be under Sophie Ecclestone’s supervision. The wicketkeeper bat Richa Ghosh has represented the London Spirit under Heather Knight’s direction.

Two hundred championships were won by the Oval Invincibles in 2021 and 2022. Another spectacular performance would be something they would like to make their mark on. Dan Van Niekerk will serve as the team’s captain, and they aim to complete the treble.

The Northern Supercharger side has a replacement named Jemimah Rodrigues. Hollie Armitage will serve as their leader. Since she was selected as the captain of the Birmingham Phoenix team, Ellyse Perry will not compete in the Hundred.

Performances of four Indian athletes throughout history

Smriti Mandhana

Mandhana performed admirably in the 2021 Hundred Tournament. She scored 167 runs throughout seven games (7 innings), recording two half-centuries and a top score of 78.

Smriti Mandhana, a beautiful left-handed batter, had a respectable performance at the 2022 Hundred competition. She was a member of the Southern Brave and amassed 211 runs throughout her eight games (8 innings), the highest of which was an unbeaten 57.

Mandhana achieved a strike rate of 151.79 in that contest. She would be looking for another strong showing to lead the Southern Braves team to victory.

Jemimah Rodrigues

In the Twenty-Four Hundred competition in 2022, Jemimah Rodrigues only participated in two games. Her score of 51 was her best.

Rodrigues ended as the second-highest run-getter in the 2021 Hundred event with 249 runs from 7 matches (7 innings), 3 half-centuries, and the top score of 92*.

Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India, will be attempting to leave a lasting impact throughout the Hundred competition. She competed in this new format in 2021 as a member of the Manchester Originals team.

She participated in three matches and scored 104 runs during the first Hundred competition before opting to withdraw due to an injury.

With Nat Sciver Brunt leading the Trent Rockets, she would be vying for yet another crown. The Mumbai Indians team that took home the WPL title in 2023 included Brunt and Kaur.

Richa Ghosh

A strong wicketkeeper named Richa Ghosh will play for the London Spirit team. She’ll take Georgia Redymane’s seat.

The wicketkeeper batter will get a fantastic opportunity to compete against the best. Ghosh would participate in her first 100 competitions. The 2021–22 WBL season saw her play for the Hobart Hurricanes.

She was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for the first WPL season this year at Rs 1.9 Crore.
