With the wicket of Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne during India’s final league encounter of the ICC World Cup 2019, Jasprit Bumrah became the second-fastest Indian to take 100 ODI wickets.
In the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019, Jasprit Bumrah was at his lethal best as he got India off to a spectacular start against Sri Lanka. Bumrah sent the two Sri Lankan openers packing to become the second-fastest Indian to rack up 100 ODI wickets after Mohammed Shami in the match currently being played at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.
Bumrah, who has been a key member of the Indian team for several years, continues to shine in the ongoing showpiece event for the Men in Blue. He began his innings against Sri Lanka with a maiden over, putting pressure on Lankan openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera. After being caught behind by MS Dhoni, he got rid of Karunartane in his second over of the day.

In the eighth over, Bumrah removed Perera to put Sri Lanka to 40/2. Bumrah finished with 100 ODI wickets in 57 games for India, trailing only Shami, who had just achieved 100 scalps in 56 games. Irfan Pathan is third on the list, having reached the mark in 59 games for Pakistan.
In ODIs, Bumrah has 101 wickets in 57 games for India. With 18 wickets from nine games, including a four-wicket haul, he has been one of the greatest performers for the Men in Blue so far in the World Cup. For India, he has been fantastic with both the new and old ball. He was magnificent in the late overs against Bangladesh, taking four wickets and running through the tail to help India secure a 28-run victory over the Mashrafe Mortaza-led side.
India has already qualified for the competition’s semi-finals and will be looking to end their league campaign on a high note with a win over Sri Lanka before moving on to the knockout stage. India has won six of their first eight games, amassing a total of 12 points, and become the second team, after Australia, to secure a place in the top four.
Bumrah has had a fantastic time at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. He began with two wickets against South Africa and went on to take three wickets against Australia despite going for runs. Bumrah struggled against Pakistan, being tonked around the park by Imad Wasim, but rebounded with some magnificent bowling against Afghanistan and the West Indies. Bumrah’s brilliance in the late overs was on display during England’s 338-run attack in Birmingham, while he claimed four wickets against Bangladesh and ensured Mashrafe Mortaza’s team could not build momentum.

Bumrah, who is presently ranked first in the ICC ODI Bowlers’ rankings, rose to prominence while playing for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
He made his ODI debut against Australia in Sydney, and the teenager hasn’t looked back since. In his first encounter, he took two wickets and gave up 40 runs.
