Most centuries by a team in T20

In most centuries, A batsman’s unique moment is always when he scores 100 runs or more in an inning. Doing it in a T20 game, however, is something exceptional. This is due to the fact that the team only has 120 balls (20 overs) to face in this format. Not many people would have imagined witnessing a batsman raise his bat for a century in this shorter game format at the beginning of the T20 format. Nevertheless, quite a few centuries have occurred in T20s, defying predictions. Though they are less common than in Tests or ODIs, more than 50 centuries have been scored in more than 15 years of international T20 cricket.

In T20 cricket, it might not be difficult to predict the top five teams with the most hundreds. Making educated guesses about the top ten teams with the most centuries, however, could prove to be difficult. Because there are so many surprises, this is the case. Below are the teams with the most hundreds in T20 international cricket, to aid you in completing your homework (in descending order).

1. Australia

Over the past 20 years, the Australian team has dominated international cricket. It should come as no surprise that they are included on this list of T20 teams with the most centuries. Three teams share the most centuries scored in the T20 format, though. India, Australia, and New Zealand have all amassed seven centuries each. However, Australia has been ranked first because they have played the fewest matches (126) out of the three.

Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Shane Watson, and David Warner are the Australian players with T20 century scores. Warner and Watson both have one century, while Maxwell has three centuries and Finch two. The highest individual score in T20I is also by Finch, who scored 172 against Zimbabwe.

2. New Zealand

One of the best teams in this condensed version of the game is New Zealand. Seven centuries have been amassed by the team through 131 games. Colin Munro, Martin Guptill, and Brendon McCullum are the Kiwis’ T20 international century scorers. McCullum and Guptill each have two centuries, compared to Munro’s three.

3. India

The Indian national cricket team has a lot of T20 records, including the first-ever T20 World Cup victory, the player with the most T20 international centuries, etc. The Indian squad has historically been dominated by batsmen, and their record for the most hundreds in T20s only serves to emphasize this point. Rohit Sharma, a right-handed batsman from India, has four hundred, while KL Rahul, a youthful batsman, has so far scored two centuries. Suresh Raina has broken the century mark. India has thus far competed in 134 matches overall.

4. South Africa

In T20I, four centuries have each been recorded by South Africa and the West Indies. However, the West Indian team has played 124 matches so far, while the Proteas have played 121. Some of the greatest T20 cricket players ever have come from South Africa, including AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, and others. It is hence quite unexpected that they are not at the top of the list. For South Africa, players Richard Levi, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, and MN Van Wyk have all surpassed the century mark.

5. West Indies

Some of the most devastating batsmen in T20I cricket have come from this team, including Chris Gayle, Pollard, and Russell, to name a few. These athletes are capable of hitting every ball for six, and out of the stadium as well. For the West Indies, Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle both have two centuries. Both of Lewis’ centuries came against India.

6. Czech Republic

Things start to become intriguing at this point. There are six countries vying for the sixth position, and most of them will surprise you. England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, the Czech Republic, and Scotland make up the teams. Each of these teams has scored two centuries. The Czech Republic, which has only played 11 matches, is ranked sixth because we used the number of matches as a subcriteria.

In Associate cricket, the Czech Republic is a formidable opponent. Sudesh Wickramasekara and Sabawoon Davizi are the Czech Republic’s century scorers (versus Turkey) (against Malta).

7. Nepal

The list of nations with the greatest T20 century totals also includes this unanticipated player. Nepal has only competed in 34 games thus far. Paras Khadka (versus Singapore) and Gyanendra Malla are the two players who have made centuries for Nepal (against Bhutan).

8. Scottish

Only 65 T20I matches have been played thus far by Scotland, another surprise on this list. In associate cricket, they have a strong team. For the Scottish side, George Munsey and Richie Berrington have each scored a century. Munsey scored a century against the Netherlands in September 2019, whereas Berrington did it in 2012 against Bangladesh.

9. Afghanistan

Afghanistan is progressing significantly in international cricket and has already defeated some of the top teams. Mohammad Shahzad (against Zimbabwe) and Hazratullah Zazai are the two players who have scored century for their country (against Ireland). The second-highest score in T20I cricket is Zazai’s 162 against Ireland. Afghanistan has currently participated in 81 T20 International matches overall.

10. England

On the list of most centuries in T20 international cricket, we finally have one name that was somewhat predictable. There have been 121 T20I games thus far in England. Alex Hales (against Sri Lanka) and Dawid Malan are two players who have made hundreds for England (against New Zealand).

It’s interesting to note that despite having played 128 T20 Internationals so far, Sri Lanka has only lost 7 matches to England before making the list.

Have you noticed that Pakistan, one of the most well-known nations in cricket, is absent from this list? This is undoubtedly unexpected. The fact that they failed to make the list despite having played the most T20I games makes it even more surprising (154). Only one century has been scored by Pakistan so far (Ahmed Shehzad against Bangladesh).

Bangladesh, Vanuatu, the UAE, Spain, Serbia, Romania, Papua, Namibia, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Canada, Belgium, Austria, and Ireland are other teams that have scored a century in T20I. Given that they have only played two matches so far, the Serbian team deserves special recognition among these other nations.
