As violent and vandalizing as AB de Villiers’ run against the West Indies on January 18, 2015, when Johannesburg was decked out in pink, there has never been more international cricket devastation. With less than 13 overs left, Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw both had century-level performances when he came out to bat.
Beginning with the first delivery, De Villiers quickly put the Windies bowlers on their knees. In 16 deliveries, the South African struck the quickest fifty in ODI cricket with a six-over-long-off. In just 31 balls, De Villiers went on to record the fastest century in the history of international cricket. In just 44 balls, he scored 149 runs, hitting 16 sixes and 9 fours.
2. Sanath Jayasuriya faced 17 balls against Pakistan in April 1996.
In the history of cricket, there have been many explosive players, but very few with Sanath Jayasuriya’s physical threat. The southpaw attacked the bowlers during the Singer Cup final in 1996 against Pakistan, and it appeared that the team would quickly reach the 216-run target.
Jayasuriya scored the fastest ODI fifty in just 17 deliveries, scoring 76 runs in just 28 balls. His innings featured eight fours and six sixes, however after he was dismissed, Sri Lanka lost the game. It took another cricketer over two decades to break this record, and when it did, it did it in grand fashion.
3. Kusal Perera faced 17 balls against Pakistan in August 2015

Guptill, who recently had a great World Cup campaign, was in beast mode during the innings, hitting an undefeated 93 in only 30 balls. He hit eight sixes and nine fours in his knock. He came close to breaking AB de Villiers’ record for the quickest 100, but there weren’t enough runs to chase. However, he did reach fifty very quickly—in just 17 balls.

5. Simon O’Donnell faced 18 balls against Sri Lanka in May 1990.
In the 1990 Austral-Asia Cup, Simon O’Donnell launched a blitzkrieg assault on Sri Lanka, setting the record for the fastest fifty in ODI cricket and the first time in the history of international cricket that a batter reached his fifty within 20 deliveries.
